ENDORSEMENTS

•Cindy Cali - Federal Law Enforcement, Retired•

I’ve known Karen for many years within the law enforcement community as well as in a social setting.  Karen is accomplished in her field.  She has a passion for corrections.  She strives to improve programming and to improve the quality of life for those who are confined.  Karen focuses on staff training as well as the safety and security of the facility.

•John P. Thomas - DOJ/BOP Retiree•

I had the pleasure of working with Karen Nicholson during the time of our activation of the Federal Correctional Institution in Fairton, NJ. Ms. Nicholson was our facility’s Case Management Coordinator and I was a Unit Manager. Karen was a pleasure to work with as she demonstrated a high level of administrative competence. She had the ability to analyze problems and she excels in selecting and developing individuals with high potential in the correctional system. She is professional, knowledgeable, and works well with all employees. It was a pleasure to work with Ms. Nicholson.

I have known Karen Byerly Nicholson from when we were both graduate students at Kent State University, in Ohio studying criminology and corrections.
After graduation we kept in contact when she joined the Federal Bureau of  Prisons (BOP), and I became a United States Probation Officer for the District of New Jersey.
Based on her  credentials and 30 years service with the BOP I believe she is highly qualified to complete correctional assessments and accreditation requirements.

Joe Stambuli,Jr - Federal Probation Officer

I worked as Associate Warden for Ms. Nicholson, Warden, at the Elizabeth Detention Center, an INS contract facility. During the time we worked together, Ms. Nicholson was a positive force uniting the staff and having a mission for the facility to become accredited by the American Correctional Association which occurred during her tenure. Ms. Nicholson showed strong leadership skills and a focus on safety and security for the facility. She had an excellent working relationship with the Immigration representative as well as Public Health Service staff who provided medical services. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Ms. Nicholson as she respected my opinions and suggestions for the facility.

Chris Brogna - Retired Associate Warden

I have known Karen for over forty years since we both worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.  I personally supervised her when she was an Associate Warden at the Federal Correctional Facility in Allenwood, Pa.  In the private sector, I selected Karen to be the first warden of a new private prison contracted by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Karen is a very experienced professional in the management of programs and staff.  She is an advocate for offender rehabilitation.  Her leadership and personal people skills are outstanding.  Karen has always been ethical in all her work duties.  I have no hesitation in highly recommending Karen for any work with the Criminal Justice System.
